Kentucky tuition waiver program has been changed in thanks to a former foster youth and current university student. Tyler Hunter assisted by testifying before the Senate Education Committee to extend the time period to 150 consecutive or non-consecutive hours for fostered and adopted students to obtain a college degree tuition free.
North Dakota Department of Human Services has launched a statewide toll free child abuse and neglect reporting line with the state's 19 human services zones. This is an ongoing collaboration between the state and local partners to provide more efficient human services by devoting more time to strengthening and supporting families while they are still together.
In Texas, 34,000 informal placements for "hidden foster care" and "shadow foster care" have taken place over the past year. These are CPS cases where children are no longer in the custody of their parents but no court cases have been attached. Legal advocates state these arrangements lead to the confusion about custody rights and leave caregivers without any support for the children.
