US - The Children's Protection Act lead by Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) requires all proposed federal rules to undergo a childhood trauma impact study being finalized to ensure the health and well-being of children being prioritized.
The Services and Trauma-informed Research of Outcomes in Neighborhood Grants for (STRONG) Support for Children Act lead by Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) establishes two new grant programs to support local Public Health Departments in addressing trauma and ensuring it is accessible to all.
Online schooling requires changes to approaches in order to protect children. In Delaware the Virtual Learning Environment was created to deliver training to teachers and youth-serving professionals on how to support children and families and what their legal obligations were around reporting child abuse and neglect. Advocate and Prevent Child Abuse Delaware are working together to provide resources to educators to be better prepared.
In New York, according to a study by the United Hospital Fund and Boston Consulting concluded there are 4,200 children that have lost a parent or guardian to COVID-19. The study concluded that a quarter of the children are at risk of entering the child welfare system and an estimated $800 million will be needed for statewide investments.
