Iowa, Council Bluffs was selected by The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as one of the 10 cities to receive funding for a new program focused on helping young people who age out of foster care to avoid homelessness. This Foster Youth to Independence initiative will distribute $1.2 million in funds to be distributed across the 10 communities.

Kentucky's proposed tax credit program will provide federal funds to cover scholarship aid for 17,000 students. Concentrating on low-and middle-income students, students in foster care and those with special needs. If the state program is created Kentucky could receive as much as $70 million in federal support.

Michigan foster care agencies in Kent County have completed training with New York's Sanctuary Institute that takes a clinical approach to addressing trauma. The 'sanctuary model' is designed to be implemented over the course of 3 years, using tools that look at the underlying cause of the behavior rather than 'bandaging' it.
