CaliforniaGovernor Gain Newsom was elected Tuesday and many are waiting to see what his election will mean for children's issues and child welfare. Newsom wrote in answer to a questionnaire that he vowed to support the children in the child welfare system by better recognition of children's needs.
Florida nonprofit Communities Based Care of Central Florida has been awarded a $8.6 million grant to create more stability for children in foster care. The goal of this grant is to increase stability by offering strengths-based, family centered coaching as well as support training to foster parents, caregivers and reunified families.
Pennsylvania's Third Circuit Court hears lawsuits between Catholic Social Services and Philadelphia for ending a contract because it does not allow same-sex households to foster children. It is unclear whether the Third Circuit panel will reach a decision.
