Maryland Delegate Barrie Ciliberti is proposing a bill to raise a minor's consent to adoption from 10 to 14 years and to reduce window on adoption consent to 20 days. Child welfare groups are opposed because it is important for parents to have time to make their decision and raising the consent would take away the children's decision making power.
Oklahoma legislators plan to push forward Senate Bill 1140 which would make it legal to discriminate against same-sex, interfaith or interracial couples, single or divorced Oklahomans to adopt or foster youth from the child welfare system.
