The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is increasing the financial support to provide foster parents, caregivers, and older youth in care to help offset the recent increases in the cost of living expenses experienced by families throughout the state. DCFS had already planned on providing these families and youth a 3 percent cost of living adjustment in the new fiscal year. The additional investment of $14.6 million will provide another 14 percent.
Missouri nonprofit, FosterAdopt Connect will soon help those aged out of foster care and has been successful in its first 100 days. After helping 25 families, FosterAdopt Connect is expanding its programs and helps foster families and kinship care make ends meet. The organization will now help teens aged out of foster care.
In Texas, foster youth are excited about graduating from high school. For most, it can be stressful for foster care youth aging out of the system and trying to find their footing in the real world. The HAY Center, which is a Harris County program that provides services to foster youth, recently celebrated the graduation of nearly 100 local students in the foster care system. HAY Center mentors help foster youth figure out life after graduation.
