On February 21, 2022, our dearest Dixie passed away after her long battle with cancer. Dixie was one of NAA’s founders. She was there for nearly every critical moment in the history of our organization.
Dixie was at the “kitchen table” in the early 80’s sharing her brilliant ideas about how NAA should convene adoption professionals to grow and learn from one another. Dixie and her team of trailblazers wrote our first application to operate the AdoptUSKids collaboration in 2000. She created processes and systems that guide the work of how all federal grant collaborations function to this very day. Known for her quick wit, keen business savvy, and compassion for children, youth and families, she will be dearly missed and her influence felt by more professionals than we can count!

Dixie was a visionary leader, problem solver and innovator. She was a wonderful woman who impacted the lives of so many children, families and professionals in the field of foster care. She was a mentor and a friend. I will miss her positive energy, kind words and "can do" attitude. She was a champion for children. So thankful I had the opportunity to get to know her over the years.
