Alabama Department of Human Resources is allowing young adults who left foster care during the COVID-19 pandemic to return temporarily and receive additional support. The Supporting Foster Youth and Families through the Pandemic Act is a federal law that suspends some requirements for current and former foster youths. It was enacted in December 2020 and addresses the risks of homelessness and other negative incomes.

Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is enhancing training and services to ensure LGBTQI+ youth in care are protected and supported. The department is working diligently to expand its network of gender-affirming therapists, service providers, health care professionals, agencies and organizations across the state. There will be LGBTQI+ training for staff built upon an initial Human Rights Campaign LGBTQI+ webinar training.

Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services is providing federal COVID Pandemic Assistance Funds to any youth between the ages of 26 and 14. Youth can receive up to $12,000 in federal money for education/tuition/room & board expenses and up to $4,000 in transportation assistance. The funds is part of the $400 million national appropriation in the "Supporting Foster Youth and Families through the Pandemic Act" approved by Congress in early 2021.
