US Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families (ACF) requests an extension to continue data collection for the Evaluation of the Family Unification Program. The ACF is soliciting public comment by requesting interviews, focus group discussions, program data, and administrative data collection.

US Sen. Ron Wyden is co-sponsoring legislation called the John Lewis Every Child Deserves a Family Act that would prohibit discrimination against prospective adoptive parents, and children and youth in the foster care system on the basis of religion, marital status, gender identity, or sexual orientation. This legislation will bar harmful practices, improve services for LGBTQ+ youth and religious minority youth, establish a National Resource Center for LGBTQ+ youth in foster care within the Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families.

Texas House Bill 567 states that child protective services can no longer remove a child from their family because a parent tested positive for cannabis. This new bill establishes a formal definition of the term ‘neglect” being that a parent’s action must result in actual harm to a child or create an “immediate” danger of harm before a child can be removed. This new definition attempts to put Texas more in line with the federal policy under the Family First Prevention Services Act.
