Kentucky General Assembly's Child Welfare Oversight and Advisory Committee on Monday heard foster parents who expressed concerns regarding their treatment by private agencies and social workers with the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. These foster parents are requesting protective rights due to feeling unable to express their grievances for fear of retaliation or loss of their foster children. The committee has agreed to investigate further.
New York City's Commission on Human Rights is investigating whether three of the city's top hospitals drug testing policies of new moms and newborns is racially discriminatory. The commission is investigating whether the hospitals policies and practices regarding drug testing of pregnant women and newborns demonstrates discriminatory racial bias resulting in devastating consequences for those families.
Texas A&M University's-San Antonio's Fostering Assistance, Transitions & Education (FATE) program which assists Bexar County foster and adopted youth to earn a college degree. It has already helped more than 50 students in its first year. The FATE program provides mentoring and basic needs, food, school supplies and hygiene products.
